Taboo

Continuing from the last post, I remember one of my school teachers asking me to write a paragraph on forest without mentioning the word trees. Trust me, its not easy to tell a complete story this way.

Taboo is similar. One member of the team is given a set of cards each with a word that he needs to describe without using another set of listed words. These list of words are the Taboo words. One example would be to guess “baseball” without saying “sport,” “game,” “pastime,” “hitter,” “pitcher,” or “baseball” itself.

Guess that sums up the simple game of Taboo. You could buy it here. Or use the set of words from this website

Cranium

Have been playing a lot of board games in past few weeks (yeah, there is a kid in everybody). Scrabble, snakes and ladders, cranium, taboo, pictionary et. al., most of them I’ve never played before. So just thought, its a good idea to know the history of some of the games.

I’ll start off with cranium.

Wiki says

Cranium is a party board game based on Ludo. Whit Alexander and Richard Tait created Cranium in 1998 after Richard spent a weekend playing games with another family and recognized the need for a game involving a variety of skills. He left his job at Microsoft, convincing friend and co-worker Whit Alexander to join him in the creation of Cranium. Cranium is manufactured by Hasbrosubsidiary Cranium, Inc. Cranium is billed as “The Game for Your Whole Brain.” Unlike many other party games, Cranium includes a wide variety of activities.

So, players from the two teams roll a die, and based on where they land, they need to do a host of activities that could include simple stunts, to dumb charades  to quizzes to word games and just everything. Hence the tagline, “The game for your whole brain”.

You can buy cranium from its official website

So what’s this blog about?

Another attempt? Well yes. Attempting to figure out another sustainable model (there are some other attempts going on parallel-ly). Well, we have a lot of questions in mind. we read up stuff, we do some research to find answers to these questions. This is an attempt to publish that little 15-20 minute research.
